One of my favorite museums in Paris. The size and scale of the d'Orsay is perfect in my opinion. You can see the whole museum in 2-3 hours and not feel like you rushed through it or missed anything. It doesn't feel like a never-ending warehouse like the Louvre can. The setting is a converted train station, so the space is grand, the works don't feel cramped (nor do you) and the light works very well. The focus of the museum is 19th and early 20th century artists, making the work very accessible. Last, but not least, I am interested in furniture design, and the d'Orsay often has fabulous furniture exhibits. If you do one museum in Paris, this is the one to do. If you do two museums, consider the Beaubourg (aka Georges Pompidou) museum which has one of the best collections of modern art - in a very cool building. if you do three museums - or are a big fan of the sculptor Rodin - then don't miss the nearby Musee Rodin, a very short walk from the d'Orsay.
