I was having lunch today at La Fiesta in Mountain View, and my lunch partner suggested I stop in at Artisan Wine Depot afterwards, just a few doors down. Wow. If you're claustrophobic, this may not be your kind of place - with wine stacked seemingly randomly, with narrow aisles. In fact, the aisles are so narrow that they provide bags that substitute as shopping carts. Lots of emphasis on wines under $20. The front area is focused on "top 100 rated wines". Wines are nicely curated, with a good mix of domestic and international. Plenty of the usual tasting notes and rating cards. Signage would be helpful, but the shop breaks down into a few key areas (Cabs; under $20; close outs; top 100; etc.). The staff is very friendly, and recognized my look of confusion, and quickly came by and gave me a quick description of how the shop is laid out. They have tastings every Friday from 4-7p and Saturdays 2-5p. Price competitive with K&L Liquor. This may become my new favorite wine store when hunting down good affordable daily wines.
