If you are heading to Pismo and want to go ATV riding, I recommend BJ's. It was a blast!! Not sure about the other cheaper places but be aware they may add some fees and give you some trouble.
The rental experience went well. You go to the office, sign up and pay $70 for a 250cc ATV for two hours. A 125 is too small for most guys and the 250 was just enough for us rookie riders. You then drive your car to a parking lot near the beach entrance and a truck will pick you up. You can drive your car on the beach to the rental spot but I think you have to pay $5 to drive down and why wreck your car in the sand.
It's a short ride to BJ's rental area and they will give you some quick instructions. They will give you a nice helmet and let you go on your own out there on the dunes. Be careful!! It is dangerous but fun!!
I kinda went too fast (Ha!) and fell into a ditch that I didn't see, flew over and got jabbed in the gut with the handle bars! Ouch! I think I'm ok but it could have been worse. Know you limit and don't go too crazy out there!!
