I have driven past the USS Midway CV41 Aircraft Carrier in San Diego many times, but finally had an impromptu opportunity to take the tour. It is an impressive ship that must be experienced in person to fully appreciate. Set aside a good half day to tour the carrier. My friends and I began the day with a casual brunch in Ocean Beach then started the tour around 1:30. It is highly accessible with a linear tour path through the ship. Get the Audio Tour head set. There's about 60 Audio enhanced exhibits and the tour guides you from the hangar to sailor bunks, boiler room, brig and up to the flight deck and finally the Bridge and Control Tower. Many more interactive areas and exhibits like sitting in flight simulators or jet and helicopter cockpits abound. We finished around 5pm and experienced pretty much everything. Bring a water bottle, it gets hot inside areas of the ship. Little children may get tired easily, so suggest kids from 5 up can enjoy. Be sure to get in line for the Bridge and Control Tower tour after exploring the flight deck. Takes about 30 min to get in. But worth it to see the Admiral's diggs. Finished tour around 5pm. I would highly recommend everyone see this and bring their kids to appreciate the scale of accomplishment in building this mini-city and the sacrifices our navy and marines make to stay aboard these vessels and serve our nation. The ship served in WWII, Korean, Vietnam and Desert Storm. It has been upgraded and expanded over the years.
